Pete Alonso hit an amazing ball for the New York Mets against the Chicago Cubs in yesterday's game, causing a severe motor vehicle accident, and scoring the Mets a game-winning run.
An amazing game for the New York Mets yesterday as Pete Alonso makes the game-winning swing, landing on the highway behind the field, killing a 56-year-old truck driver, causing an eight-car pile up, and hitting a home run. After a fastball pitched by Chicago Cubs star Marcus Stroman, Alonso returned the ball with a thundering hit, sending it out of the field and over the fence. Confusion arose after the sound of 25,000 pounds came crashing onto the highway, blocking five lanes, and causing seven other cars to crash into each other like a scene out of the blues brothers.
Smoke started billowing above the stadium when the referee called the home run, and Alonso ran home. He was welcomed at base into warm arms as emergency sirens were heard in the background. The ball is believed to have travelled at over 80mph when it slammed into the coupling link between a 16-wheel truck and the trailer it was carrying, causing it to fishtail until it flipped on its side, instantly throwing the driver out of his seat and into the path of the 25,000 pound vehicle. The truck then slide horizontally blocking three lanes and causing the subsequent cars behind to lose control and crash into the truck and trailer. Emergency services said only two of the 24 involved in the accident survived. "It's just such a surreal feeling you know? The height of my career and I'm surrounded by folks I love and who support me. It's just a dream." said Alonso after returning to base.
